The Lemon Cake Incident
(March 2020)
Installation-papier mache, paper, audio
The Lemon Cake Incident is an installation with sculptural and sound elements. After isolating a family anecdote about a lemon cake as inspiration, the artist used methods of repetition to mirror the repetitive storytelling used by her family. A sound piece was played through headphones coming from a large paper model of a jar of lemon curd adding to the ridiculousness of the piece. A pair of exaggerated sculptural cakes and several papier-mache lemons alludes to yet another retelling of the story through their repetition and reproductions of each other.
